Rimfire begins work on Wernecke gold project
Rimfire Minerals Corporation has begun work on its C$6 million (£2.8 million) exploration program at the Wernecke Mountains Project in Yukon.
Partner firm Fronteer Development will operate the 10,000 metre drilling program, which is building on the success of a program last year that focused on gold, copper and uranium deposits in the district.
Various targets, including one called Thunder Mountain, have been defined. Thunder Mountain features a gold, uranium and copper mineralization over an area of at least 550 metres by 400 metres. Surface sampling has included 99.2 grams per tonne gold.
"We are delighted to have Rimfire as a participating joint venture partner in this year's exploration program" said Fronteer's president and chief executive, Dr Mark O'Dea.
"It is a strong endorsement from a well-respected company with a wealth of experience in this mineral district. We are optimistic that collectively we have created a new road map to discovery in this emerging Canadian mineral belt."
Rimfire Minerals has also signed a new partnership with Island Arc Exploration to explore the Jake Gold Property near Clearwater in British Columbia.
