FT: Diesel Denting Platinum

LONDON, 19 October 2017 – Comment from BullionVault features in the Financial Times' report from this week's London Bullion Market Association conference, the premier event for the precious metals industry.

"The consensus was gold isn't going anywhere for the foreseeable future in terms of being a narrative," the FT quotes Adrian Ash, director of research at BullionVault, "because equities are too strong."

Palladium on the other hand, says Adrian, is seen by LBMA delegates as having "supportive" fundamentals.

This contrasts with its sister metal platinum, dented by the ongoing scandal over emissions from diesel engines, in which platinum finds a major use in catalysts to reduce pollution.

"Diesel still has a role to play," the FT quotes David Jollie of miner Anglo American Platinum. "We're looking for lower urban emissions and lower CO2 emissions. You can get a long way down that road with hybrids, without going to full battery electric."
