FE TrustNet: Gold's Worst Year Ever

LONDON, 17 December 2013 – Analysis by BullionVault of annual returns from  the major asset classes over the last 40 years is featured today by FE TrustNet, the specialist website for financial advisors and professional investors.

"This year has seen worse returns for gold than any other since the US came off the gold standard," says TrustNet, reporting BullionVault's findings.

"However, Adrian Ash, head of research at BullionVault, says the metal's long-term relative performance to other asset classes over the years shows that it has carried out its role as portfolio insurance."

Looking at (and linking to) the unique UK asset comparison table compiled by BullionVault, "The FTSE versus gold tends to be pretty polarised," TrustNet quotes Adrian. Given the London stock market's strong gains, "you didn't need insurance this year.

"However, you don't want to cancel your insurance policy just yet."
